Under the moonlight the participants of the 4th Moonlight Classic Marathon run a fair competition. The winner of the 36 km stretch,
Giovanni Gullo (Fiamme Gialle),
was enthusiastic about the race: "This was my first participation at the Moonlight Classic, and I am very impressed by the stretch, it's really beautiful. Competitions of this nature should be held more often."
This year's Moonlight Classic Marathon was also a
race of records:
More than 200 participants from 11 nations were competing for victory,
the 20 km stretch saw a new record time of 54:54 by Mirco Pezzo (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri).
The winner of the 4th "Alto Adige Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi" is
Giovanni Gullo (Fiamme Gialle). The Italian skier completed the 36 km stretch with a total time of 1:39:13.6, and was followed by
Florian Kostner (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri, 1:39:26.9) and
Agostino Zortea (Fiamme Gialle, 1:39:31.7) in 2nd and 3rd place.
In the ladies’ race the winning time of 1:59:55.2 went to
Stefanie Santer (Fiamme Gialle). She was the only one to run in under 2 hours.
Karin Moroder (Centro Sportivo Forestale, 2:03:19.9) arrived in second place, followed by
Tiina Boman (2:05:08.4).
The men’s race over 20km went to
Mirco Pezzo (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri) with a total time of 0:54:54.0.
Morris Galli (UBI Banca Goggi ASD) finished second in 0:54:58.7 while
Alan Martinelli (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri) was third with 0:55:40.1.
Previous year’s champion over 20km
Esther Demetz (SC Gardena) won the women's race. She clocked 1:12:16.8 ahead of the Finn
Maija Oravamäki, who clocked 1:12:38.3, while
Saskia Santer (SC Toblach) was third in 1:12:43.2.
The 5th "
Alto Adige Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi" will take place on
January 19, 2011
